This retrospective review examines the peri-operative morbidity in patients with neurogenic bladder who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) at our institution over the past decade.
Out of 298 PCNL procedures, 58 were performed on patients with neurogenic bladders or urinary diversions, including 33 patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). The study summarises preoperative demographics, stone characteristics, intraoperative data, and postoperative outcomes.
The findings indicate that PCNL is a safe and effective treatment for upper tract stone disease in patients with neurogenic bladders, particularly when alternative methods like ureteroscopy are not viable due to SCI.
